BOLIVA
Boliva is a South American Country of roughly 12.4 million people, and (compared to many countries on the continent) has a relatively stable governmental history. However, currently the country is facing a major crisis.
For the last three weeks, there have been increasingly violent protests calling for the resignation of the current President, Rodrigo Paz (who took office in November). In addition to the protests, there are many blockades. According to authorities, there are roughly 40 blockades across six of the nine departments that make up the country.
Four people have died as a result of the unrest so far (some because they could not get to the hospital in time due to the blockades). Hospitals in La Paz (the capitol city) have declared "Emergency Conditions" after reporting shortages of oxygen, and medical supplies.
Business groups in the country have warned that the country is approaching a state of "institutional and economic paralysis".
