UNDERSTAND YOUR ENEMY

China is an enemy of the United States. As I have said many times, I will never discuss domestic politics on this blog, however geopolitics is essentially the lifeblood of this blog. With that in mind, it is important to understand who your enemies are, and to understand to the extent possible what makes them tik.

As I said in the first sentence of this post, China is our (the United States) enemy. In a previous post titled "CIVLIZATIONAL STRUGGLE ON THE HORIZON', I made the case of what is unique about the threat of China both to the United States and the free world at large. In the next paragraph I am going to discuss an ancient historical figure and explain why if the United States does not pay attention to this figure, we might lose the war before it starts.

The person that I was referring to at the end of the last paragraph is Sun Tzu, who was a Chinese Military general, strategist, and philosopher, from the fifth century BC, who is a known for writing the Chinese Military Treatise titled Art of War.  A quote from him that sums up what he writes in the Art of War is, "the supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting". This is important to know, because modern Chinese Military Doctrine is not only based on the principles taught by Sun Tzu, but it is also adapted and expanded on to meet today's geopolitical realities.

Why does this matter? Keeping in mind the current issues in the world: war in Europe, war in the Middle East, the rising price of oil, and the consequences associated with it. As long as it does not directly involve the Chinese military and incrementally decreases the United States global stature in the world, China is willing to put up with it.
