IT IS ABOUT TO GET UGLY

 On this blog I have talked a lot about terrorist groups, and how it is obvious that those groups are growing. Just yesterday the post was about Al-Tanf. Today I will talk about very alarming numbers that came out this week and mention an incident that occurred earlier this week in Europe that is a huge red flag.


Earlier this week a UN Monitoring group released a report that estimates that currently Al-Qaeda combined with groups associated with it (such as ISIS) to now have 25,000 fighters. The estimate is a 5,000% increase in their ranks from 9/11, in 2001.


Now onto what happened earlier this week in Europe, On Thursday, fifteen people were arrested in the Netherlands for spreading terrorist propaganda on Tic-Tok, and for recruiting people to carry out attacks in the name of ISIS.


The reason for the title of this post is from tracking the rapid growth of these groups, and how sporadic attacks are starting to pick up around the world, I sadly predict that by this summer (if not sooner) there will be frequent large-scale attacks around the world and here at home. I predict this for two reasons. The first reason is as the groups take over more territory they will continue to spread further. Their ideology largely centers around achieving an ultimate global caliphate so continuing to spread is necessary.  The second reason (and related to the first one) their ideology demands sustained violence meaning until they achieve the global caliphate (which they never will) they will continue carrying out terror wherever possible.

REASON FOR THIS BLOG

When I was a kid knowledge of two events shaped my interest in global events. The first event that I learned about was 9/11 and I first heard about it in 2009, The second event that shaped my interest and the first thing I tracked as it was happening was the Arab spring in 2011. Ever since I learned about 9/11, I have always paid increasing attention to big stories around the world and at home but have always been annoyed with media outlets selecting which stories to cover instead on simply covering events as they happen. I am starting this blog to cover events in a straightforward way as they occur and to give my insight to those events. When necessary, I will add historical examples that help form my opinion. In a world that seems to be on fire people need reporting and insight without an agenda.

WHO WAS RIGHT? DANGEROUS SITUATION

 I closed the last post by asking what if anything people thought would happen between the United States and Iran by time I write this post. I also asked if something did happen, which side would be responsible for it?. If you said that something would happen, and it would be the United States (I am not saying the U.S was wrong to do it) you you are right. Yesterday an Iranian cargo ship broke through the U.S. blockade and after ignoring orders to stop, had its engine room hit by rounds fired by the USS Spruance. The other development I wanted to address is, today the U.S. Embassy in Iraq warned U.S. citizens already in the country to leave immediately. It also urged U.S. citizens not to travel to Iraq. The reason for the  concern is terrorist groups in the country are said to be aiming to assault Americans. The situation is so unstable the Embassy has cautioned U.S. citizens that want to leave Iraq not to go to the Embassy in Baghdad, or the Consulate in Erbil.
