TALIBAN AND PAKISTAN

Last Saturday, I mentioned in the post that Pakistan was carrying out airstrikes in Afghanistan that day.

Today, the Taliban launched what they are calling retaliatory attacks against Pakistan. The attacks started several hours ago, and they are still happening as I write this post. The duration, and violence of the attacks, suggest that rather than a wave of attacks, the Taliban launched a war. Three developments make me think that is the case, and I will list the three in the next paragraph to close this post.

The first development that makes me think that this is the start of a war is, there are reports that the Taliban have captured several military outposts in Pakistan. Second, Pakistan is conducting more airstrikes in Afghanistan, that are happening as I type. The third and biggest reason, that I think this is the start of a war is, after the attacks began today a spokesman for the Taliban referring to a response from Pakistan said " they (Pakistan) are so proud of their nukes, and missiles we (the Taliban) have battalions of suicide bombers". The statement is alarming, as it suggests the Taliban are prepared to slug out what would be a brutal dirty war.
