BEING A GLOBAL SUPERPOWER

 Before I get into the topic of this post, I want to list three things to keep in mind as you read this post. First, it will be about an opinion of mine and if you disagree state your opinion in the comments. Second, it is not political, nothing on this blog will ever be political. Third, this post will build off the post titled "obligation " on January 15.


What makes a country strong?  big economy? united population? strong military? I think each of those things are part of it, but what makes the United States a Global Superpower? I would say one of the main qualities that sets us apart is trust. Countries around the world know they can trust us, which along with the other qualities that make a country strong, trust makes us a superpower.


With the previous paragraph in mind let me get to the point of this post. As far as I am aware of starting with the Vietnam War, through the current war in the Middle East, some people seem to be so concerned about using our military in foreign countries and keeping our soldiers safe. At this point you might be saying sure how do you relate that to being a Global Superpower and trust? In the next paragraph, to finish the post, I will explain my point.


The term justice is the missing link. I do not want a bloodthirsty military that kills for the sake of it (Russia has that) or solely to conquer foreign lands (China has that). What I want and what we have always had is a strong military capable of carrying out justice wherever wrong is done in the world. This whole post is my reaction to when I hear people say for example about Ukraine that is not our problem, or regarding Iran we do not need to overthrow the regime or clear the Strait of Hormuz that is not our problem. It is our problem. We should always try to solve problems with diplomacy first, but when that does not resolve the issue, we should be ready to use our military to serve justice on behalf of the American people. When we say "not our problem" it shows weakness to our enemies, and that will eventually lead us to cease as a superpower.

REASON FOR THIS BLOG

When I was a kid knowledge of two events shaped my interest in global events. The first event that I learned about was 9/11 and I first heard about it in 2009, The second event that shaped my interest and the first thing I tracked as it was happening was the Arab spring in 2011. Ever since I learned about 9/11, I have always paid increasing attention to big stories around the world and at home but have always been annoyed with media outlets selecting which stories to cover instead on simply covering events as they happen. I am starting this blog to cover events in a straightforward way as they occur and to give my insight to those events. When necessary, I will add historical examples that help form my opinion. In a world that seems to be on fire people need reporting and insight without an agenda.

WHO WAS RIGHT? DANGEROUS SITUATION

 I closed the last post by asking what if anything people thought would happen between the United States and Iran by time I write this post. I also asked if something did happen, which side would be responsible for it?. If you said that something would happen, and it would be the United States (I am not saying the U.S was wrong to do it) you you are right. Yesterday an Iranian cargo ship broke through the U.S. blockade and after ignoring orders to stop, had its engine room hit by rounds fired by the USS Spruance. The other development I wanted to address is, today the U.S. Embassy in Iraq warned U.S. citizens already in the country to leave immediately. It also urged U.S. citizens not to travel to Iraq. The reason for the  concern is terrorist groups in the country are said to be aiming to assault Americans. The situation is so unstable the Embassy has cautioned U.S. citizens that want to leave Iraq not to go to the Embassy in Baghdad, or the Consulate in Erbil.
