The END? A LOT OF NOISE

 Both parts of the title of this post refer to the war currently taking place in the Middle East. In this post I will discuss the two parts of the title, finish by saying what I fear is going to happen, and what I think is happening.


I am going to discuss some of the noise first. Saturday the president issued an ultimatum to Iran regarding the Strat of Hormuz. The ultimatum is to open the Strait within forty-eight hours, and if they did not the U.S would start striking electric plants in Iran.


Today, the strikes were called off for five days, negotiations were announced, and details of a peace summit are being reported. Meanwhile, the Strait is still closed, thousands of Marines are still on their way to the Middle East, and rumors are going around that elements of the 82nd Airborne are about to be deployed to the region.


I fear the United States is going to sign a "deal" with Iran to legitimize ending the war which would give Iran an opportunity to say they outlasted the great, and little Satan (how Iran refers to the United States and Isreal) and continue their malign activities. What I think is actually happening is the United States is trying to distract Iran while finalizing preparations for some sort of ground operation, but time will tell.

REASON FOR THIS BLOG

When I was a kid knowledge of two events shaped my interest in global events. The first event that I learned about was 9/11 and I first heard about it in 2009, The second event that shaped my interest and the first thing I tracked as it was happening was the Arab spring in 2011. Ever since I learned about 9/11, I have always paid increasing attention to big stories around the world and at home but have always been annoyed with media outlets selecting which stories to cover instead on simply covering events as they happen. I am starting this blog to cover events in a straightforward way as they occur and to give my insight to those events. When necessary, I will add historical examples that help form my opinion. In a world that seems to be on fire people need reporting and insight without an agenda.

WHO WAS RIGHT? DANGEROUS SITUATION

 I closed the last post by asking what if anything people thought would happen between the United States and Iran by time I write this post. I also asked if something did happen, which side would be responsible for it?. If you said that something would happen, and it would be the United States (I am not saying the U.S was wrong to do it) you you are right. Yesterday an Iranian cargo ship broke through the U.S. blockade and after ignoring orders to stop, had its engine room hit by rounds fired by the USS Spruance. The other development I wanted to address is, today the U.S. Embassy in Iraq warned U.S. citizens already in the country to leave immediately. It also urged U.S. citizens not to travel to Iraq. The reason for the  concern is terrorist groups in the country are said to be aiming to assault Americans. The situation is so unstable the Embassy has cautioned U.S. citizens that want to leave Iraq not to go to the Embassy in Baghdad, or the Consulate in Erbil.
