TWO ATTACKS, And FRENCH MILITARY NEWS

 On Thursday, there were two terrorist attacks in the United States, one in Virginia, and the other in Michigan. Many details including a specific motive for either attack is unclear. Officially the FBI is investigating one of the attacks as what it is (a terrorist attack), while investigating the incident in Michigan as "an act of violence against the Jewish Community." In the next paragraphs I will mention some of what is known about each attack, and why I think both incidents will eventually be called terrorist attacks.


First, I will discuss the attack in Virginia which is actually being investigated as such. The sole attacker had been convicted, sentenced, and served seven years in prison, for attempting to provide material support for ISIS in 2016. Today on the campus of Old Dominion University, he shot three people, killing one and injuring two.


In Bloomfield Michigan, a man from Lebanon who is now a U.S citizen rammed his car through the doors of a Synagogue, hit a security guard in the building, got out of the car, and after a brief exchange of fire was shot and killed. Although this is being officially investigated as "an act of violence against the Jewish Community," I believe this will eventually be referred to as a terrorist attack for two reasons that are already known. First, the attacker was from Lebanon. Lebanon is directly involved in the war currently taking place in the Middle East. Second, the target was a Synagogue, and the people group that terrorists hate most are Jews.


Lastly, to finish this post, news about the French Military. Also on Thursday, Iran launched a drone attack at a joint French, Kurdish base in Iraq resulting in the death of a French Soldier, and injuring others.

REASON FOR THIS BLOG

When I was a kid knowledge of two events shaped my interest in global events. The first event that I learned about was 9/11 and I first heard about it in 2009, The second event that shaped my interest and the first thing I tracked as it was happening was the Arab spring in 2011. Ever since I learned about 9/11, I have always paid increasing attention to big stories around the world and at home but have always been annoyed with media outlets selecting which stories to cover instead on simply covering events as they happen. I am starting this blog to cover events in a straightforward way as they occur and to give my insight to those events. When necessary, I will add historical examples that help form my opinion. In a world that seems to be on fire people need reporting and insight without an agenda.

WHO WAS RIGHT? DANGEROUS SITUATION

 I closed the last post by asking what if anything people thought would happen between the United States and Iran by time I write this post. I also asked if something did happen, which side would be responsible for it?. If you said that something would happen, and it would be the United States (I am not saying the U.S was wrong to do it) you you are right. Yesterday an Iranian cargo ship broke through the U.S. blockade and after ignoring orders to stop, had its engine room hit by rounds fired by the USS Spruance. The other development I wanted to address is, today the U.S. Embassy in Iraq warned U.S. citizens already in the country to leave immediately. It also urged U.S. citizens not to travel to Iraq. The reason for the  concern is terrorist groups in the country are said to be aiming to assault Americans. The situation is so unstable the Embassy has cautioned U.S. citizens that want to leave Iraq not to go to the Embassy in Baghdad, or the Consulate in Erbil.
