REMINDER OF EVIL

 One of the first global events that I tracked in my life was the Syrian Civil War. It was directly connected to the Arab Spring (which I tracked closely). I basically followed the war from its inception, including the many acts against humanity that occurred during the war. One of those "acts" that I am referring to is the use of Chemical weapons.


Chemical weapons were banned in 1925 with the signing of the "Geneva Protocol (which banned the use of chemical, and biological weapons in armed conflicts). Despite the ban, the Assad regime (the government during the war) used Chemical weapons 300 times during the war.


The only reason I bring this up is today in Syria ingredients for the chemicals for the weapons were found, along with more than 70 rockets, and aerial bombs, at a location that was used by the regime. 


As is apparent in past posts on this blog, I have deep misgivings about the new leadership of Syria (and do not necessarily credit them for finding the materials). My main purpose in writing this post, is to show yet another example of how truly despicable the Assad Regime was.

REASON FOR THIS BLOG

When I was a kid knowledge of two events shaped my interest in global events. The first event that I learned about was 9/11 and I first heard about it in 2009, The second event that shaped my interest and the first thing I tracked as it was happening was the Arab spring in 2011. Ever since I learned about 9/11, I have always paid increasing attention to big stories around the world and at home but have always been annoyed with media outlets selecting which stories to cover instead on simply covering events as they happen. I am starting this blog to cover events in a straightforward way as they occur and to give my insight to those events. When necessary, I will add historical examples that help form my opinion. In a world that seems to be on fire people need reporting and insight without an agenda.

WHO WAS RIGHT? DANGEROUS SITUATION

 I closed the last post by asking what if anything people thought would happen between the United States and Iran by time I write this post. I also asked if something did happen, which side would be responsible for it?. If you said that something would happen, and it would be the United States (I am not saying the U.S was wrong to do it) you you are right. Yesterday an Iranian cargo ship broke through the U.S. blockade and after ignoring orders to stop, had its engine room hit by rounds fired by the USS Spruance. The other development I wanted to address is, today the U.S. Embassy in Iraq warned U.S. citizens already in the country to leave immediately. It also urged U.S. citizens not to travel to Iraq. The reason for the  concern is terrorist groups in the country are said to be aiming to assault Americans. The situation is so unstable the Embassy has cautioned U.S. citizens that want to leave Iraq not to go to the Embassy in Baghdad, or the Consulate in Erbil.
