DAY OF DAYS
On June 6th, 1944, thousands upon thousands of American, and Allied troops took part in Operation Overlord. The operation was one of the boldest military operations in the history of the world. Before the landings even began on the beaches of Normandy, thousands of paratroopers had been landing behind enemy lines throughout the night.
When the paratroopers jumped out of their planes, they faced anti-aircraft fire that was so intense that one of the paratroopers said, "it looked like you could dance on it". Many of the men were killed before they landed. Many of the planes got hit before they even got to jump.
The purpose of Operation Overlord was to begin liberating Nazi occupied Western Europe. 4,414 allied troops were killed on D-day, but largely due to the actions of that "DAY OF DAYS" freedom was restored to the oppressed peoples of Europe, and they preserved the free world after them.
