CONTEXT EXERCISE
A common theme of how events are covered in the world currently seems to be bad context. Proper context is important to understanding everything. If you do not have it, you will be susceptible to believe partial truths or conspiracy theories. In this post, I am going to list 3 semi made up scenarios, it is up to you to decide which is just, which is a fact of life (it has to happen sometimes) and which is unjust.
A leader of a country is being led through a crowd, the leader has his hands tied behind his back. Much of the crowd is joyfully chanting at the prospect of what is about to occur. The leader sees some of the soldiers in front of him walk up steps leading up to a platform. The soldiers behind the leader push him forward as he starts to walk up the steps leading to the platform. A few minutes later, the leader has a hood put over his head, and a rope is put around his neck. The crowd goes silent with anxious expectations, as the cruel leader of their country has been overthrown, and in about to be executed.
A soldier lays injured on a battlefield. He urges his fellow soldiers on, as he knows the mission is more important than his life. He lays there dying, as the battle against the enemy rages ahead of him. He knows his teammates will come back for him, when possible, but they all know it will not be soon enough to save his life.
A woman stands on a platform in a city square, it is quiet. On the ground watching her is a large crowd. Many in the crowd are sorrowful, as they wish this was not happening. The woman remains calm (accepting what is happening to her) as her feet are tied together, and her wrists are bound. The city has recently been taken over by rebels. The woman on the platform was arrested during the overthrow with the intention of using her to break any resistance in the city. Many in the crowd look away as the woman has a hood put over her head, and a rope placed around her neck.
