NOT A ONE OFF

New Years Eve 2021, a family enjoys the last day of the year together in their small village in Ukraine. This family is made up of a husband (age 32) his wife (age 30) and their twin sons (age 5). The village is located approximately 75 miles from Russia.


After midnight the mood of the family starts to turn sad, as the husband is scheduled to go to a post near the border with Russia in the morning. Rumors had been floating around for weeks about a Russian military buildup near the border, but few in the village thought Russia would actually invade (including the husband, and wife). around 7 am the husband says bye to his wife, and sons (hoping in not too many days, he will comeback).


February 24, one am, the husband is texting his wife about an invasion that might start soon. Around 3 30 am, the husband hurriedly texts that heavy gunfire has been reported near his position. The man's wife does not sleep that night. One of the thoughts that fills her mind, is somehow hopefully the Russians are stopped on the border.


At 8 am, the mom tries to keep her sons calm (they hear gunfire getting closer to their house). A short time later there is a series of 4 loud knocks on the front door. The mom cautiously walks over to the door. When the mom is halfway to the door, the door violently slams open. Five armed and masked Russian soldiers rush into the house).


Before the mom can react, she hears her sons screaming and sees them being carried out of the house by two of the soldiers. She instinctively runs after them. By time she gets outside, the vehicle carrying her sons speeds past her. 


The woman hears the snow crunch as the 3 soldiers who were still in the house walk up behind her. Dejected, the woman feels a chill go down her spine. She looks down and sees her sweatpants covering the top of her bare feet.


She feels the soldiers pull her arms behind her back. She sees two of the soldiers leave. The soldier who is still behind her binds her wrists. The woman closes her eves, as a blindfold is put on her, Seconds later, she is shot in the back. The woman instantly falls to her knees (breathing shallowly). The soldier (eager to complete the atrocity) waits a minute and shoots again. The woman (already on her knees dying) falls face first into the snow.


This story is fiction based on actual events. The reason I write this is to illustrate the atrocities the Russians routinely carry out in Ukraine. Consider this story before you support Russia being allowed to take over Ukraine.

REASON FOR THIS BLOG

When I was a kid knowledge of two events shaped my interest in global events. The first event that I learned about was 9/11 and I first heard about it in 2009, The second event that shaped my interest and the first thing I tracked as it was happening was the Arab spring in 2011. Ever since I learned about 9/11, I have always paid increasing attention to big stories around the world and at home but have always been annoyed with media outlets selecting which stories to cover instead on simply covering events as they happen. I am starting this blog to cover events in a straightforward way as they occur and to give my insight to those events. When necessary, I will add historical examples that help form my opinion. In a world that seems to be on fire people need reporting and insight without an agenda.

WHO WAS RIGHT? DANGEROUS SITUATION

 I closed the last post by asking what if anything people thought would happen between the United States and Iran by time I write this post. I also asked if something did happen, which side would be responsible for it?. If you said that something would happen, and it would be the United States (I am not saying the U.S was wrong to do it) you you are right. Yesterday an Iranian cargo ship broke through the U.S. blockade and after ignoring orders to stop, had its engine room hit by rounds fired by the USS Spruance. The other development I wanted to address is, today the U.S. Embassy in Iraq warned U.S. citizens already in the country to leave immediately. It also urged U.S. citizens not to travel to Iraq. The reason for the  concern is terrorist groups in the country are said to be aiming to assault Americans. The situation is so unstable the Embassy has cautioned U.S. citizens that want to leave Iraq not to go to the Embassy in Baghdad, or the Consulate in Erbil.
